Day Train

Don’t have enough time to maintain your dog’s training during the week? Struggling to train a specific problem area? Is your pup not a good candidate for traditional daycare? Or are you just looking for a way to exercise their brain and body while you’re at work? In the Day Train program, professional trainers will work hands-on with your dog throughout the day to build good habits and real-life skills using positive, evidence-based training methods.

Your dog’s Day Train plan is fully customizable and will be designed to best suit their needs and training goals. Our experienced trainers will work with you to help decide what your dog works on day-to-day!

Day Train

We can help teach a variety of skills and behaviours during Day Train:
– Basic obedience (sit, down, stay, recall, loose leash walking)
– Advanced behaviours (heel, formal retrieves, drop/out, cues at a distance)
– Trick training
– Sport skills (agility, flyball, scent detection, rally/obedience)
– Behaviour modification (fear, frustration, reactivity, overarousal)
– Puppy socialization (neutrality with people and dogs, appropriate play, environmental confidence-building)

Daily Schedule

After drop off, your dog will have their first training session. This is typically an enrichment session which is geared towards helping your dog relax, work out any excess energy, and get into a comfortable working mindset. If it is your dog’s first day, this session may be focused on building their confidence or on building a working relationship with the trainer. If they are a regular Day Train attendee who enjoys the company of other dogs, it may be an off-leash play group; these small groups (2-6) are closely supervised and our trainers are always there to help to support appropriate play, social skills, and recall. Not every dog is playgroup compatible and dog-dog play is not a guaranteed part of Day Training.

Your dog’s second and third training sessions occur mid-day and in the afternoon. This is when we begin working on the behaviours you have chosen for the day. Sessions are usually individual but dogs who are practicing neutrality around other dogs or working through distractions may also participate in group work, where trainers work with small groups of multiple dogs (2-6) at once.

Any time that your dog is not working with a trainer will be spent relaxing in their own crate. We encourage you to bring appropriate chews/toys and personal beds/blankets for crate time, as long as they are not damaged and can be safely enjoyed without supervision. Dogs have constant access to water, regular potty breaks, and can be fed any meals (breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner) at owner’s request. Puppies are provided more frequent potty breaks to prevent accidents and keep up with house training protocols.

At pick up, the trainer who worked with your dog will go through a summary of what they trained during the day, how your dog did, and any homework you can practice to support their progress.
